a message from our founder
As a younger teacher, Glenn’s school used a large tour company for their annual trip to Washington D.C. — and affordability was an issue as prices increased year after year. Determined to make the trip budget-friendly, he took on the challenge of planning it himself. The risk was worth the reward, as each student was able to save hundreds of dollars, even after adding an extra day at Hershey Park.
Word spread quickly and soon, another school asked Glenn to plan their trip. What started as a simple effort to make travel affordable became something much bigger — and American History Tours was born.
Since then, American History Tours has proudly helped thousands of students, teachers and groups experience history firsthand through well-crafted, educational and affordable tours. From the monuments of Washington, D.C. and the battlefields of Gettysburg to the quiet charm of Mount Veron and the crack in the Liberty Bell, we’ve brought history to life without sacrificing quality or affordability.
Since our reputation for immersive and meaningful tours has grown, so has the demand for more adult-focused historical travel experiences. We are excited to now offer in-depth tours designed specifically for adults who want to explore history on a deeper level
Glenn Fountain
For American History Tours owner Glenn Fountain, it took twenty years of teaching history for him to figure out what he wanted to do when he grew up! While teaching was a remarkable chapter of his life, some of his most cherished memories came from the meaningful connections he has built with students and their families on student trips.
There is nothing like walking in the footsteps of George Washington at Mount Vernon or standing where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech at the Lincoln Memorial. Travel provides a deeper, more immersive understanding of history, which is something no textbook can match.
